To mark the debut of our Mum Bracelet, we had the privilege of sitting down with SV Muse, Emily Yates, to delve into her personal journey of motherhood. Through this conversation, we explored cherished memories, valuable lessons learned, moments of grace and the experiences that have shaped her path.

What is your favourite way to spend Mother’s Day? 

Wake up to a coffee and a cuddle in bed, and than head to the beach with the kids to watch them go surfing and have breakfast in the sun.

What’s the most rewarding part about being a mum? 


It feels impossible to pick a single thing. Its a culmination of a million tiny insignificant moments - seeing their personalities grow, watching as they learn compassion for others, their soft little breath on your face as you put them to sleep knowing they’re fed and warm and happy, watching as they become who they’re going to become. 

What advice would you give to new mothers? 

No one knows what they’re doing. Everyone is just fumbling through pretending to have it all together. As time progresses everything becomes more natural, instinctual and effortless. Give yourself grace while this happens. 

What’s something you have learned from your children? 


Patience, resilience and to be more affectionate and vocal about my praise and my love. My kids need to be told, and to feel that I love them no matter what they do “wrong”. Before them, this didn’t come so naturally to me - I FELT it but I wasn’t always good and putting that into words. Im much more open with my emotions now. Im softer. 


A special memory you have of your child that always makes you smile

Foxy asking a middle aged man with a well rounded tummy in Portugal if he was pregnant. I still laugh and simultaneously die on the inside every time I think of it. Needless to say we had a great conversation about not ever commenting on anyone’s body’s after that.
